Halter Tops for Women Date Night Outfits

We knit this halter top with an open crossover neckline and drop the hem down past the knee. The fine gauge yarn hangs away from the torso rather than clinging. It feels cool against bare skin on warm afternoons, finished in a clear red that we also dye into other colourways.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crossover halter neck. The neckline crosses high at the throat and stays open across the shoulders. Knitted edges keep the crossover flat against the collarbone without rolling or bunching through an evening out.
  • Long relaxed drape. The body is cut wide and roomy, falling away from the waist down to the lower leg. That extra length gives the lightweight knit steady downward pull so it sways naturally as you step.
  • Fine gauge yarn. Viscose, polyester, and nylon come together in a thin, smooth thread. It has gentle give across the chest and stays soft to the touch without building up heat in warm weather.
  • Washing and shape care. Hand wash in cold water or run a gentle machine cycle with mild detergent. Avoid bleach entirely. Reshape the crossover bands while damp and dry the piece flat so the long body keeps its shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
