Women 2 Piece Matching Lounge Sweater Sets

We knit this two piece lounge set from a soft, stretchy ribbed yarn in a deep wine red. The crewneck pullover hangs loosely away from the torso with dropped raglan sleeves, while the matching wide leg trousers pull on with an elastic drawstring waist. Visible outer seams give the clean knit a deliberate finish.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Ribbed knit yarn. The ribbed structure gives the fabric an easy crosswise stretch that relaxes as you move. We knit both the top and the trousers from the same yarn lot so the wine red shade matches across both pieces.
  • Raglan sleeve and crewneck. The plain round crewneck sits flat against the collarbone without binding. Long raglan sleeves drop low on the shoulder, giving the upper body a wide, unstructured shape that finishes in neat ribbed cuffs.
  • Wide leg trouser cut. The trousers are cut with a relaxed palazzo leg that falls straight from the hip. An elastic waistband with an adjustable knit drawstring anchors the waist without digging in, keeping the drape loose and fluid.
  • Care and washing. Machine wash the set cold on a gentle cycle, preferably inside a mesh laundry bag to protect the outer seam details. Lay both pieces flat on a dry towel so the ribbed knit keeps its shape and length.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
