What we would tell you in the studio

  • Striped mock neck top. The top is knit with a roomy body that hangs away from the torso. We finished it with a neat mock neck and short sleeves that leave arms bare for easy layering.
  • Tapered knit trousers. We knit the bottoms from the same dye lot so the nutmeg tones align. The leg relaxes through the thigh and tapers slightly toward the ankle to keep the lower hem tidy.
  • Yarn and stripe gauge. The yarn blend gives the knit a medium weight that holds its shape without feeling stiff. Striping is knit directly into the fabric rather than printed on top.
  • Laundering and care. Wash this set by hand in cool water or dry clean it. Press water out gently with a clean towel and dry both pieces flat on a rack to protect the knit.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
