What we would tell you in the studio

  • Shaped henley collar. The top uses a clean henley neckline that buttons down the front placket. It sits flat against the collarbone without pulling or gaping open when you move.
  • Drawstring waist construction. We built the shorts with an adjustable tie through the waistband and deep side pockets. The cut gives legs room to move while staying anchored at the waist.
  • Smooth lightweight yarn. The knit yarn carries fine stretch that holds its shape after a full day of wear. It feels cool against bare skin and packs down thin.
  • Washing and care. Wash both pieces together in cool water to keep the deep black shade even across top and bottom. Lay flat to dry so the waistband retains its shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
