What we would tell you in the studio
- Waistband and belt. The high paperbag waist gathers slightly above the seam and uses an elasticized section across the back. Slide the removable belt through the loops or leave it off entirely.
- Front pleats and pockets. Two deep front pleats give the legs their volume from the hip down. Inset side pockets sit flat along the seam line for everyday use.
- Wide leg drape. The cut stays roomy through the thigh and calf, falling in a straight line to the bottom hem. The fabric resists creasing across a day of sitting.
- Washing and care. Machine wash cold inside a mesh laundry bag to protect the belt loops. Lay the trousers flat to dry or run on tumble dry low without bleach.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
