Womens Bodycon Maxi Long Dresses

A long crewneck knit dress in saturated red, worked in a double-layered stitch that keeps the fabric opaque and close to the skin. The long sleeves follow the arm cleanly down to the wrist. The straight skirt drops below the knee toward the ankle without extra bulk.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Double layer knit. We knit this piece with two fine layers joined together. The construction adds thickness and keeps the deep red tone solid, so light does not show through the fabric when it stretches across the frame.
  • Neckline and sleeves. The crewneck sits flat against the collarbone with a narrow band. Long sleeves fit close from the shoulder down to the wrist, creating a clean line under jackets or heavier cardigans.
  • Full length cut. The hem falls straight to the lower calf and ankle. Because the knit sits close through the waist and legs, the weight of the longer length helps the dress hang straight down while you walk.
  • Washing and drying. Machine wash cold inside a mesh laundry bag to protect the fine surface from snagging. Tumble dry on a low heat setting, or lay the piece flat to dry so the long hem holds its shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
