Womens Bodycon Maxi Long Dresses

We knit this maxi dress with a double-layered structure that sits close against the frame from the crewneck down to the ankle. The long sleeves run straight to the wrist without ribbing at the cuffs. It wears on its own in warm weather or under heavy cardigans when the temperature drops. The yarn has substantial stretch and recovers its line after wear.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Double layer knit. We use two fine knit layers to give the fabric opacity and a dense, smooth hand against the skin. The extra layer adds weight so the piece hangs evenly without clinging thin.
  • Neckline and sleeves. The neckline is a simple rounded crew that sits flat against the collarbone. Long straight sleeves finish cleanly at the wrist, layering easily under coats and loose knit pullovers.
  • Maxi length hem. The hem falls straight down toward the ankle. Because the knit carries high recovery stretch, the lower skirt holds its column shape while allowing a full stride.
  • Cold wash routine. Wash this piece on cold in a mesh laundry bag to protect the fine surface. Tumble dry on a low heat setting, or lay it flat on a dry towel to maintain length.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
