Womens Bodycon Maxi Long Dresses

We knit this maxi dress with a double-layered construction that gives the yarn extra opacity and hold. The cut sits close to the skin from the round neckline all the way down to the long hem. It layers easily under open cardigans or heavier coats.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Double layer body. Two fine layers knit together give the dress more substance than a single jersey. The extra layer keeps the knit opaque across the body while maintaining stretch as you move.
  • Crew neckline. The round neckline is bound cleanly and sits flat against the collarbone. It stays in place without pulling, providing a balanced frame for jackets or knit cardigans worn on top.
  • Sleeve and length. Full-length sleeves sit close down the arm to the wrist. Below, the straight skirt continues down to an ankle-length hem that holds its column line through a full day.
  • Cold water care. Wash on a cold cycle inside a mesh laundry bag to protect the fine surface of the knit. Tumble dry on low heat or lay flat to maintain the original shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
