2 Piece Knit Sweater Lounge Sets for Women

We knit this two-piece set in a dense, flexible black yarn that hangs straight down. The pullover sits away from the torso with batwing sleeves and a simple crewneck, while the matching trousers fall wide to the ankles. Both pieces share the same dye lot so the deep tone stays uniform.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crewneck and batwing sleeve. The round neck is finished with a flat ribbed band that stays close to the collarbone. Beneath it, the sleeves drop low off the shoulder to give the arms room without pulling across the chest.
  • Wide-leg knit trousers. We knit the trousers with a wide leg that drops in a straight line from hip to hem. The elastic waistband pulls on flat without drawstrings or hardware to break the line.
  • Roomy proportions. Both halves are cut loose. The top hem clears the hip line so the knit moves on its own, while the pants pool slightly over flat shoes rather than gripping the ankle.
  • Dye lot and washing. Because top and bottom come from the same bath, the black remains identical across both pieces. Hand wash cold or use a gentle cycle in a mesh bag, then dry the knit flat.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
