2 Piece Striped Sweater Lounge Sets for Women

We knit this two-piece set with a roomy body and matching wide trousers. The top has a simple crew neckline and long batwing sleeves that drop low at the armhole. Deep wine red panels alternate with pink across both pieces, giving the knit a steady horizontal break.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crew neckline and batwing sleeve. The top is built with a round ribbed neck that sits flat against the collarbone. Low armholes create a batwing shape through the sleeve, tapering down to a narrower rib at the wrist to keep the cuff in place.
  • Wide knit trousers. We gave the matching trousers an elastic waist and a straight, wide leg that hangs loose from the hip down. The knit moves freely without clinging around the thighs or calves.
  • Yarn hand and stretch. The yarn is soft against bare skin and holds plenty of mechanical give across the body. It relaxes slightly as you wear it through the day without losing the shape of the stripes.
  • Washing and flat drying. Wash this set in cold water on a gentle cycle, preferably inside a mesh laundry bag. Lay both the top and trousers flat on a towel to dry so the heavy wet knit does not stretch out.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
