2 Piece Knit Sweater Lounge Sets for Women

We knit both halves of this set from the same white yarn to keep the gauge and hand consistent throughout. The crewneck top falls loosely past the hip with dropped batwing sleeves, while the trousers drop into a relaxed, wide leg. Wear them together or break them apart.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crewneck and batwing cut. A plain round neck keeps the top clean and flat against the collarbone. Dropped batwing sleeves taper into long cuffs, giving the body plenty of room through the chest without bunching up at your wrists.
  • Wide leg trouser profile. The matching trousers fall straight down from an elasticated waistband into a wide hem. Because the yarn carries its own weight, the knit hangs plumb rather than clinging to the legs.
  • Matching white dye lot. We knit the pullover and trousers together so the white tone matches across both pieces. The knit fabric gives with motion and resets when washed, keeping its original shape across repeat wear.
  • Washing and flat drying. Hand wash in cool water or use a gentle cycle inside a mesh bag. Press the water out with a dry towel and lay both pieces flat to dry so the long trousers do not stretch out.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
