What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crewneck top cut. The pullover sits loosely across the chest and hangs straight to the hip. Low-set batwing sleeves taper into ribbed cuffs that stay in place at the wrists.
  • Wide-leg trouser shape. We gave the knit pants a wide leg that drops straight from the elasticated waistband down to the hem, keeping the fabric away from the legs as you walk.
  • Striped yarn gauge. The hot pink striping is worked directly into the knit rather than printed onto the surface. This keeps the colour clear across the body and down both sleeves.
  • Care for knit sets. Wash both pieces together on a gentle cycle in cold water to keep the stripes matching evenly. Reshape the damp knit and lay flat on a drying rack.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
