2 Piece Striped Sweater Lounge Sets for Women

We knit this two-piece set in a grey stripe pattern with plenty of room through the body. The top uses a clean crew neck and low-set batwing sleeves, while the trousers fall straight through a wide leg. Both pieces hang away from the frame for easy movement.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crew neck and batwing cut. The pullover features a simple round collar that lies flat against the collarbone. Dropped armholes shape the batwing sleeves, giving you plenty of space through the chest before tapering down to the wrist.
  • Wide leg trouser waist. We gave the knit trousers a high rise and an elasticated waistband that stays put without digging. The legs drop straight and wide from the hip down to the shoe, holding their drape as you walk.
  • Striped knit gauge. Horizontal stripes in grey run across the torso and down the sleeves. The yarn has natural stretch worked into the stitch, so the fabric flexes easily and returns to its shape after a full day of wear.
  • Laundering the set. Wash both pieces together on a gentle cold cycle using mild detergent to keep the grey tones matched. Lay them flat on a dry towel away from direct heat so the trousers do not stretch out of shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
