What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crewneck and batwing sleeve. The top has a clean round neck and batwing sleeves that start low on the body before narrowing toward the wrist. This gives the shoulders plenty of room to move without pulling on the neckline.
  • Wide leg trouser cut. We shaped the pants with a high elastic waistband that sits flat against the waist. The legs drop straight and wide to the lower hem, giving the knit room to swing as you walk.
  • Striped yarn gauge. The green horizontal stripes are knit directly into the fabric rather than printed on top. The yarn has enough natural give to move comfortably while holding its structure across both the top and pants.
  • Care and maintenance. Wash this set on a gentle cycle in cold water with similar colors. Reshape both pieces while damp and dry them flat on a towel to keep the sweater and trousers from stretching out of shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
