2 Piece Striped Sweater Lounge Sets for Women

We knit this two piece set in striped khaki with a loose, boxy pullover and matching knit pants. The top hangs away from the torso with dropped batwing sleeves, while the trousers pull on with an elastic waist and fall straight to the floor. Both pieces are knitted from the same soft yarn lot.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crew top and sleeve. The pullover uses a plain round crew neck that lies flat. We set the long sleeves into a low batwing armhole, leaving ample room through the chest before the knit narrows at the wrists.
  • Wide leg trouser. We gave the pants a high rise with an encased elastic waistband that stays put without digging. The knit drops straight through the leg to a clean, loose hem that clears low shoes.
  • Yarn and stripe gauge. Horizontal stripes in alternating khaki tones are knitted directly into the fabric rather than printed on top. The medium-weight knit has natural horizontal stretch and keeps its shape after hours on the couch.
  • Washing and shape care. Hand wash the top and trousers in cool water with mild soap, or use a mesh laundry bag on a gentle cycle. Press the water out gently with a towel and dry both pieces flat.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
