We knit this two piece set from a smooth, stretchy yarn with a balanced weight. The top is cut straight through the body with a round crewneck and long sleeves, while the trousers fall wide to the ankle from an elastic waist. Both pieces share the same mocha dye lot.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crewneck top cut. The top falls straight from the shoulders to land around the hip. We finished the round crew neckline and the cuffs with plain self-fabric binding that holds flat across repeated wear.
  • Wide leg trousers. The trousers are cut with a wide leg that hangs straight from the hip. An elasticated waistband includes a matching knitted drawstring so you can adjust the waist position as needed.
  • Matching mocha yarn. We dye both halves of the set together to keep the brown mocha tone uniform across top and bottom. The knit has enough spring to move easily without stretching out of shape.
  • Wash and lay flat. Machine wash the set on a gentle cycle in cold water or send it for dry cleaning. Reshape both pieces while damp and dry them flat on a towel to preserve the trouser length.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
