What we would tell you in the studio

  • Striped yarn gauge. We knit the berry pink stripes directly into the gauge rather than printing them on top. The yarn has substantial stretch, moving easily across the body without pulling tight or losing shape as you move throughout the day.
  • Crewneck and sleeves. The crewneck sits flat against the collarbone with clean self-binding. Long sleeves drop straight from the shoulder line into open hems that rest comfortably past the wrist bones without tight ribbing squeezing the forearm.
  • Wide leg trouser. The trousers feature a wide, straight cut that falls cleanly from the waist down to the shoes. An encased elastic waistband holds position securely, aided by a dyed-to-match flat drawstring that lets you adjust the tension.
  • Laundering the pair. Wash both pieces together on a gentle machine cycle in cool water to keep the striped pattern uniform over time. Lay them flat on a drying rack so the weight of wet knitwear does not pull the trouser legs longer.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
