We knit this striped sweater with an open, dropped shoulder cut that hangs away from the torso. The zip neck pulls up into a high stand collar or folds back over the collarbones when unfastened. Clean horizontal blocks of black and cream yarn run across the chest and down the sleeves.

What we would tell you in the studio
- Quarter zip collar. The metal zipper runs down from a tall ribbed collar. Pull it closed to cover the neck, or leave it parted flat over a crewneck tee.
- Striped ribbed body. Ribbed columns give the yarn noticeable crosswise give. Horizontal black and white bars are knit directly into the gauge, keeping the pattern even across the front.
- Dropped long sleeve. The shoulder seam sits low on the arm to keep the chest roomy. Long sleeves finish in tighter ribbed cuffs that bunch gently over the wrist.
- Cold water washing. Soak by hand in cold water and press the excess moisture out between towels. Lay the sweater flat across a rack to hold the sleeve length.

Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
