Off The Shoulder Tops Oversized Short Sleeve Tshirts

We cut this top wide through the body so the knit hangs clear of the torso rather than clinging. The neckline finishes in a wide boat-to-off-shoulder line that lets the fabric pull slightly to one side. Short sleeves and a cropped hem keep the total weight light.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Roomy block cut. The body is cut wide and square, allowing the fine gauge knit to fall straight down. It stays off the waist and leaves space through the chest.
  • Neckline and shoulder line. A broad, flat-bound neck opening sits wide across the collarbones. You can wear it centered as a boatneck or pulled down across one shoulder.
  • Sleeve and short hem. Short sleeves drop from the wider shoulder line without tight underarm seams. The hem stops short near the waistband, matching well with high-rise knit skirts.
  • Care for fine gauge. Wash in cool water on a gentle cycle inside a mesh laundry bag. Lay the top flat on a dry towel to preserve the shape of the neck.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
