Off The Shoulder Tops Oversized Short Sleeve Tshirts

We knit this top in purple with a wide, roomier body that stays away from the skin. The short sleeves drop slightly off the shoulder line, while the crew neck bands flat. A short hem keeps the extra volume balanced over high-waisted bottoms.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Roomy boxy cut. The body is cut wide and loose, dropping straight down so the fabric does not cling. That extra ease lets the fine gauge knit drape naturally while keeping air moving through warm days.
  • Neckline and sleeves. A flat round crew neck gives structure to the top edge. The short sleeves extend past the dropped shoulder, leaving the armholes open and comfortable under light jackets or worn alone.
  • Cropped straight hem. We finished the hem short to meet high-rise knit trousers or skirts without bunching. It hangs straight across, giving the generous proportions a clean, squared-off lower edge.
  • Washing and care. Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with similar shades. Lay flat to dry on a towel so the weight of the damp knit does not pull the short hem or shoulder seams out of shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
