Off The Shoulder Tops Oversized Short Sleeve Tshirts

We knit this top with an open shoulder line and a wide cut through the body. The knit fabric falls loose rather than clinging, finished with short sleeves and a higher hem. It works over high-waisted bottoms or under light jackets on cooler evenings.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Wide neck and shoulder. The neckline opens out past the collarbones so the fabric settles across the shoulder line. It stays in place without pulling tight against the neck.
  • Roomy body cut. We shaped the torso with extra ease so the fabric hangs straight down and stays off the skin. The knit has enough weight to keep its shape through movement.
  • Short sleeve proportion. The sleeves are cut short and wide to balance the cropped hem length. They leave plenty of room through the armhole for easy layering.
  • Washing and shape care. Wash this piece on a gentle cycle in cold water and lay it flat on a drying rack. Hanging a wet knit can pull the neckline out of shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
