What we would tell you in the studio

  • Half-high neck. The collar sits close around the base of the neck without folding over, holding its shape through the day. It layers neatly under heavier winter coats when you head out into the cold.
  • Wide-leg trouser cut. The trousers fall straight from the drawcord waistband through the hem without tapering at the ankles. We added inset side pockets that sit flat against the hip without breaking the line of the knit.
  • Smooth yarn blend. We spun this yarn with synthetic fibres and added stretch so the knit recovers after hours of sitting. The surface feels smooth and soft against bare skin, holding up well to regular wear.
  • Washing and care. Machine wash cold inside a mesh laundry bag to protect the knit from snags in the drum. Tumble dry on a low heat setting, or lay the pieces flat to dry to keep the trousers at length.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
