What we would tell you in the studio

  • Mock neck collar. The collar rises straight from the neckline to sit cleanly against the throat. It holds its shape without folding over or pulling tight, giving you warmth around the neck without bulk.
  • Straight tunic cut. We gave this piece an open, roomy silhouette that falls straight down and hangs away from the body. Side splits at the lower hem give the long panels room to move when you walk.
  • Full length sleeves. The sleeves run long to the wrist and finish in a neat rib that stays put when pushed up. The dropped shoulder seam keeps the upper arm relaxed and comfortable under heavier coats.
  • Care and washing. Hand wash or use a gentle cycle with cold water, then lay the tunic out flat on a towel to dry. Hanging heavy wet knits can stretch the long body out of shape.

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
