What we would tell you in the studio
- High mock collar. The collar stands close to the throat without folding over. It holds its upright shape through a dense rib that keeps drafts out.
- Body and side splits. A roomy cut allows the knit to fall straight down from the shoulders. Stepped side splits at the hem stop the fabric from bunching when you sit.
- Long ribbed sleeves. The sleeves run long, finishing in deep ribbed cuffs that keep the wrist covered. You can push them up the forearm and they stay in place.
- Washing and care. Hand wash in cool water or use a gentle cycle with a wash bag. Reshape the knit while damp and dry it flat to protect the hem.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
