What we would tell you in the studio
- Fuzzy wool blend. We spin this yarn with wool, acrylic, polyester, and polyamide for a lofted, brushed surface that holds heat. A cold wash before the first wear softens the texture and settles the spun fibres.
- Roomy straight cut. The body hangs wide and away from the torso, giving you ample room to layer a collared shirt or thermal base underneath. The knit drops down past the knee without tapering inwards.
- Long cuffed sleeves. The sleeves are cut long to match the relaxed proportions of the body. Ribbing at the wrists gathers the fabric slightly so the cuffs stay put over the back of the hands.
- Washing and flat drying. Wash by hand or run on a gentle cycle in cold water to protect the fuzzy hand. Squeeze out excess water without twisting, then lay the knit flat across a drying rack.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
