We shaped this pullover with a wide foldover collar that can sit across both shoulders or pull down to one side. The knit is medium gauge with a soft hand, cut wide through the torso and tapered at the lower sleeves. It drops past the waistband toward the hip.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Wide folded neckline. The neckline is knitted with a deep ribbed band that turns over and rests wide across the collarbones. You can wear it straight across or slant it lower on one arm.
  • Batwing sleeve construction. The armholes drop low into a loose batwing cut before narrowing down the forearm. Ribbing at the wrists holds the extra sleeve volume in place when pushed up.
  • Roomy straight drape. We knitted the body wide so the fabric hangs straight down rather than pulling close. The extra width settles into soft folds through the torso and clears the hip line.
  • Care and shape retention. Wash in cold water on a gentle cycle or wash by hand. Squeeze out excess water without twisting the knit, then lay the sweater flat on a clean towel to dry.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
