We knit this with a wide neckband that you can pull off both shoulders or let drop to one side. The body is cut wide with deep batwing sleeves that narrow toward the wrists. It hangs loose through the torso and finishes around the lower hip.

What we would tell you in the studio
- Wide folded neckline. The open band is knitted with enough stretch to sit flat across the collarbone or pull down across the upper arm. It holds its position without tugging against the neck.
- Batwing sleeve shape. The armholes drop low toward the waist, giving the upper body a full drape. Long sleeves taper into firm ribbed cuffs that stay in place when pushed up the forearm.
- Relaxed body drape. We gave the body a roomy cut that falls straight from the chest to the hem. The knit has enough weight to hang clear of the waist rather than bunching up.
- Care and drying. Hand wash in cool water with a gentle knitwear detergent. Press out excess moisture with a clean towel and lay the sweater flat to dry so the neckband keeps its shape.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
