What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crew neckline and front. The plain round crew neck sits flat against the collarbone, leading into a double-knit front placket. It stays open without rolling back, framing whatever you wear underneath.
  • Long straight sleeves. We cut the sleeves long and straight down to the wrist without tight banding. The fine gauge knit slides over long-sleeve tees and woven cuffs without catching or bunching.
  • Extended lower hem. The hem falls well past the knee toward the ankle. Because the knit is light, the extra length moves freely as you walk rather than pulling or dragging.
  • Gentle machine wash. Wash on a low-temperature gentle cycle without bleach to protect the yarn. Lay the cardigan flat on a towel to dry so the long hem keeps its shape.

Living with this one

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.

  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
