What we would tell you in the studio

  • Length and fall. The knit extends down past the knee toward the ankle. This extra drop gives the fabric room to swing as you walk, while the open front lets base layers show through completely.
  • Neck and front placket. We finished the top with a simple round crew line and double placket down the front edge. It rests flat without curling or pulling tight across the shoulders.
  • Sleeve and pocket construction. Long sleeves run straight to the wrist with room for a collared shirt or tee underneath. We integrated deep side pockets directly into the front panels to hold small items without sagging.
  • Yarn feel and upkeep. The fine-gauge yarn feels cool and smooth against bare arms. Wash on a gentle cycle in cold water and lay it flat across a drying rack to keep the long hem straight.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
