Oversized Cardigan Sweaters for Women

A generous knit cut with an open front and dropped shoulders that hang loose across the body. The Dark Sage yarn has a soft hand without dense weight. Wide ribbing secures the sleeve cuffs and hem, while two deep patch pockets sit at the front for practical storage.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Relaxed knit gauge. The knit balances warmth with a lighter gauge so the layer drapes without stiff bulk. The Dark Sage shade stays muted across the surface, giving the open-front shape an even, matte texture that works over tees and shirts.
  • Dropped shoulder shape. We shaped the shoulders to drop low on the arm, creating extra room through the chest and upper sleeves. The cuffs gather with wide ribbing so the fabric pushes up easily without losing its recovery over a long day.
  • Front pocket construction. Two deep patch pockets are knitted right into the front panels. They sit flat against the body when empty but hold small daily items securely without dragging the front hem down unevenly.
  • Washing and knit care. Hand wash in cold water or use a gentle cycle inside a mesh laundry bag. Squeeze out excess moisture without twisting the yarn, then lay the knit flat on a towel away from direct heat to protect the shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
