What we would tell you in the studio

  • Cut and drape. The body is cut wide and hangs straight down from dropped shoulders. It stays open in front without buttons, leaving plenty of room through the chest and waist to sit over tees or dresses.
  • Pockets and ribbing. Spacious patch pockets are knit right onto the lower front panels to hold small items. Ribbed knitting finishes the cuffs and bottom hem, helping the edges hold their shape across repeated wear.
  • Yarn and shade. We chose a medium weight yarn for this piece that feels smooth against the skin. The clear pink shade runs even throughout the dye lot and matches well with denim, white cotton, or dark trousers.
  • Washing and care. Hand wash in cold water or use a gentle cycle in a protective mesh bag. Reshape the body while damp and lay it flat on a drying rack so the knit does not stretch out of shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
