What we would tell you in the studio
- Crew neck and front. The plain crew collar sits flat against the collarbone without rolling. It runs into an open front placket that falls straight down without fasteners, staying open as you move.
- Short sleeve line. Dropped armholes create a relaxed shoulder line that transitions into a short, wide sleeve. The opening stays loose around the upper arm, leaving plenty of room over underlayers.
- Cropped ribbed hem. The wide ribbed band at the bottom provides weight so the cropped length hangs straight. It sits high on the hip rather than pulling tight against the waist.
- Care and handling. Hand wash in cold water using a mild wool detergent, or dry clean. Press out excess water between dry towels and lay flat to dry so the knit holds its original proportions.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
