What we would tell you in the studio
- High neck profile. The ribbed neck sits tall against the throat to keep drafts out. You can let it stand naturally or fold the knit down once without stretching out the ribbing.
- Generous straight drape. The body is cut wide through the torso and drops straight to a lower hemline. It floats freely over trousers or skirts rather than gathering close to the waist.
- Full length sleeves. Knitted with a dropped shoulder line, the sleeves run long and finish with ribbed cuffs. The ribbing helps hold the fabric at the wrist when pushed up.
- Washing and shape care. Hand wash in cold water or run a gentle machine cycle with mild soap. Press the excess water out into a clean towel and dry the sweater flat.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
