What we would tell you in the studio
- High neck construction. The ribbed neck collar stands high on the throat and folds over cleanly. It holds its tubular shape without pressing tight, keeping chilly drafts off the collarbone.
- Roomy straight cut. We gave the body a wide, straight drape that falls away from the waistline. The hem lands around the hip, giving you room to wear thin base layers underneath.
- Sleeve and cuff gauge. The sleeves run long from a dropped armhole down to a set-in ribbed cuff. That tighter ribbing at the wrist keeps the extra fabric from sliding over your hands.
- Gentle washing care. Hand wash in cool water with a mild soap to protect the yarn softness. If machine washing, choose a delicate cold cycle and lay the knit flat to dry.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
