What we would tell you in the studio

  • High neck construction. The folded turtleneck sits close enough to block chilly drafts without squeezing the throat. Ribbing along the collar gives it the necessary recovery to stay upright through repeated wear.
  • Roomy body cut. The body is cut wide and straight, hanging loose off the shoulders rather than clinging to the midsection. This extra ease lets you move freely and layers smoothly over thin undershirts.
  • Sleeve and hem balance. Long sleeves run down to the wrists to balance the generous cut of the torso. The lower hem drops down around the hip, giving the sweater a clean, relaxed drape when left untucked.
  • Care and washing. Hand washing in cold water protects the soft yarn from premature pilling. If you use a machine, select a gentle cycle with mild detergent, avoid bleach, and lay the garment flat to dry.

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.

  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
