What we would tell you in the studio

  • High neck construction. The collar sits close to the neck in a steady rib knit that stays upright throughout the day. You can leave it folded over once or let it gather naturally without it collapsing flat against your collarbone.
  • Roomy straight cut. We dropped the shoulder line to let the sleeves fall loosely, giving the body plenty of ease. The fabric hangs away from the waist and reaches down around the hip, so it layers over jeans or trousers with ease.
  • Medium gauge knit. Knitted from a smooth yarn blend that feels soft directly against the skin without prickly weight. The stitch is dense enough to hold out autumn breezes while remaining light enough to sit under an unbuttoned trench.
  • Care for knitwear. Hand wash in cold water or use the gentle machine cycle with a mild detergent. Skip the bleach, press out excess water without wringing the yarn, and lay it flat on a dry towel to preserve the shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
