What we would tell you in the studio

  • Tall folded collar. The high neck stands up on its own or folds over without pinching. Ribbing gives the collar enough recovery to hold its shape through repeated wear.
  • Roomy body cut. We shaped this sweater with a wide body and low armholes so it hangs straight down. The generous cut leaves space underneath for a fitted tee or a collared shirt.
  • Soft yarn hand. The blend produces a smooth surface that feels cool to the touch before warming with wear. It provides insulation without feeling heavy under an outer coat.
  • Washing and drying. Hand wash in cold water with mild soap, or run on a gentle machine cycle. Press out the water with a towel and lay the sweater flat to dry.

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
