What we would tell you in the studio

  • High neck construction. The collar sits close around the neck to block drafts, holding its upright shape while remaining soft against bare skin. You can fold it over once or let it gather loosely at the base of the throat.
  • Roomy straight cut. We gave the body significant ease through the torso, meaning the fabric hangs straight down rather than pulling taut. It layers over thin undershirts or slips under a broad-shouldered trench coat without bunching up.
  • Long sleeve profile. The sleeves are knitted long with enough slack to pool lightly at the wrists. The knit yarn bends easily at the elbow, keeping your arms unrestricted whether you are working at a desk or walking outside.
  • Washing and care. Hand washing in cool water protects the yarn surface over time. If using a machine, pick a cold gentle cycle with a mild detergent, avoid bleach, and lay the piece out flat on a towel to dry.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
