We knit this two piece set in bluedot coffee with a loose, roomy cut that hangs away from the body. The top carries a crewneck and dropped raglan sleeves with side slits at the hem. Matching knit trousers pull on with an elastic waist and fall straight through the leg.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Top construction. The sweater uses a round crewneck and dropped raglan sleeves that taper into the cuffs. Side slits give the lower hem room to move over the matching trousers.
  • Trousers cut. We shaped the trousers with a pull-on elastic waistband that sits high. The legs drop wide and straight from the hip down to the floor.
  • Bluedot coffee yarn. The yarn is spun for soft stretch and knit together in one dye lot so top and bottoms share the exact same tone and weight.
  • Care routine. Wash by hand or run on a gentle cold cycle with mild detergent. Lay both pieces flat on a towel to dry so the knit retains its shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
