What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crew neck and buttons. The top starts with a clean round crewneck and a small button accent along the shoulder line. The body hangs loose and away from the torso, letting the medium-weight knit drape without clinging.
  • Raglan sleeves and hem. Dropped raglan sleeves leave generous room under the arms before falling into full-length sleeves. Side slits at the lower hem give the top ease of movement over the pull-on trousers.
  • Wide leg trouser. We knit the trousers with a wide, straight leg and a high-rise elastic waist that sits flat. The knit construction holds its shape through the leg while staying soft against the skin.
  • Care and washing. Hand wash cold or run on a gentle machine cycle with mild detergent. Lay both pieces flat on a clean towel to dry so the knit does not stretch out of shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
