What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crew top with side slits. The pullover sits off the body with a clean round neck and decorative buttons. Side slits let the hem hang clear over the hips without bunching.
  • Wide-leg knit trousers. We gave the pants a high elastic waistband that stays flat against the waist. The legs knit wide and straight down to the shoe.
  • Yarn hand and weight. A soft gauge knit gives both pieces an easy drape that moves with you. It feels smooth against bare skin without feeling heavy.
  • Care and washing. Hand wash or run on a gentle cycle with cold water and mild detergent. Lay both pieces flat on a towel to dry so the knit keeps its shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
