What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crew neck and pocket. The round neck is finished with a tight rib band that keeps its circle after laundering. A single knit pocket sits flat against the striped chest without pulling the fabric out of square.
  • Roomy straight body. We shaped the torso to hang straight down from the shoulders rather than cling. The hem drops low enough to cover the waistband, leaving plenty of slack for moving through the day.
  • Lightweight knit gauge. The yarn is spun thin enough for mild weather and layers under heavier coats without bunching. It holds the Nutmeg tone alongside the contrasting stripe through regular wear.
  • Care and drying. Hand wash in cold water or dry clean to protect the stitch definition and color lines. Squeeze water out without twisting, then spread the knit flat on a towel to dry.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
