What we would tell you in the studio

  • Cotton yarn hand. We knit this from fine-spun cotton yarn for a soft, dry surface against bare skin. The knit has enough natural give to move easily without feeling heavy under an outer coat.
  • Crew neckline and pocket. The round neck is finished with a low-profile rib that stays close to the collarbone. On the left chest, a small patch pocket breaks up the horizontal color blocks.
  • Roomy straight cut. The body drops straight from the shoulders, hanging away from the waist. Long sleeves taper gently into ribbed cuffs that hold their place when pulled up the forearm.
  • Washing and care. Hand wash in cold water or dry clean to protect the yarn structure and dye blocks. Press out excess water with a towel and lay flat to dry so the body keeps its shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
