What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crew neckline and pocket. The round neck is bound with a narrow band of self rib that sits flat against the collarbone. On the left chest, a single knit patch pocket interrupts the white and black stripe pattern.
  • Dropped long sleeves. We knit the sleeves long with a low shoulder seam, giving the arms plenty of room to move. A fine rib at the wrist keeps the cuff in place when pushed up the forearm.
  • Relaxed body drape. The body is cut wide and falls straight rather than tapering inward. Because the knit is light, the fabric breaks soft at the sides instead of standing stiff around your waist.
  • Cold water care. Wash this piece by hand in cold water or send it to a dry cleaner. Press excess moisture out in a clean towel and lay it flat to dry so the stripes stay straight.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
