What we would tell you in the studio

  • High roll collar. The collar is knitted in a rib that holds its shape when folded down. It covers the neck fully and gives cold air nowhere to get in, sitting comfortably without choking or tightening across the throat.
  • Roomy body and slits. Dropped shoulder seams let the long sleeves fall naturally. The body is cut wide and straight, finishing in a high-low hem with split sides so the fabric drapes cleanly over trousers or skirts without bunching.
  • Soft blended yarn. We chose a smooth blend that gives the surface a quiet sheen and a soft feel next to bare skin. The knit carries enough weight to hang straight, offering steady warmth through autumn and winter.
  • Washing and drying. Hand wash in cold water or run a gentle machine cycle with mild soap. Press out excess water between towels instead of wringing the knit, then dry it flat on a rack so the long hem keeps its shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
