We knit this pullover with a high roll neck and a generous, boxy cut through the body. The hem reaches down past the hips, split at each side so the fabric moves freely when you walk. The army green yarn is smooth to the touch, with enough give to hold its shape over a day of wear.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • High roll collar. The neck sits tall around the throat without pinching. You can leave it upright or fold it down once, depending on how close you want the fabric to sit.
  • Roomy body cut. We shaped this with dropped shoulders and a straight, wide torso that hangs away from the waist. The side vents give the lower hem room to swing rather than catching on trousers.
  • Long straight sleeve. The sleeve starts low on the arm and runs down to a neat ribbed cuff. The ribbing grips the wrist gently, so you can push the fabric up the forearm if needed.
  • Cold water wash. Hand wash this knit or run it on a cold, gentle machine cycle with mild detergent. Lay it flat across a towel to dry so the weight of wet yarn does not pull the shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
