Womens Oversized Roll Neck Sweaters
We knit this sweater with a generous cut that falls straight and rests away from the torso. The roll neck sits high against the throat without collapsing, while the body carries down toward the lower leg. Side slits break the long line of the hem so you can walk without the fabric catching.

What we would tell you in the studio
- High roll collar. The collar is knitted in a dense rib that holds its shape upright around the neck. You can leave it standing high or fold it once. It sits close to block drafts without binding.
- Dropped shoulder seam. We cut the armholes low on the body to let the knit hang loose through the chest. The sleeves run long down the arm and gather naturally at the ribbed cuffs rather than stretching taut across the shoulder.
- Split lower hem. The lower edge lands well down the leg, cut with an uneven line and deep side vents. These openings give the long knit freedom of movement, letting the panels drape independently as you walk.
- Washing and drying. Hand wash in cold water or run a gentle cold cycle with mild detergent. Press excess moisture out in a towel instead of wringing the knit. Lay it flat on a drying rack so the weight of the damp yarn does not pull the sweater out of shape.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
