What we would tell you in the studio

  • High roll neck. The neck is knit as a ribbed tube with enough height to fold once or leave standing softly. It rests against the skin without tension, keeping cold drafts off the collarbone and throat.
  • Split high-low hem. Side slits break the lower edge so the longer back panel hangs straight without catching on your waistband. The hem falls well past the hips, giving substantial coverage that stays put when you sit.
  • Dropped shoulder sleeve. The shoulder seam sits low on the upper arm, creating a wide chest and extra ease through the underarm. The long sleeves narrow into ribbed cuffs that hold their position when pushed up.
  • Yarn and laundering. We spun this brown yarn from a smooth viscose blend that holds gentle mechanical stretch. Wash by hand or on a gentle cold machine cycle, reshape the damp knit, and dry flat on a towel.

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
