What we would tell you in the studio

  • High roll neck. The collar is knitted in a ribbed structure that folds over once or stands up softly. It keeps its shape without pinching, resting clear of the collarbone while blocking cold drafts.
  • Dropped shoulder line. We set the armholes low on the body so the fabric slopes naturally across the shoulders. Long sleeves narrow down toward ribbed cuffs that hold their place at the wrists when pushed up.
  • Split high low hem. Side vents break the lower edge of the body knit, allowing the longer back panel to hang freely over trousers or skirts. The split hem keeps the loose shape from bunching when you sit.
  • Gentle wash routine. Hand wash or run on a gentle cycle with cold water and a mild liquid detergent. Lay the knit flat on a towel to dry so the weight of the damp yarn does not pull the shape out of square.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
