What we would tell you in the studio

  • High neck construction. The foldover neck sits high on the throat without choking. It holds its upright cylinder shape on its own, or you can roll it down once to double the knit density against cold drafts.
  • Shoulder and sleeve line. Dropped armholes create a loose, open chest before narrowing into full-length sleeves. Ribbing along the cuffs gathers the extra volume at your wrist so the sleeves do not slide over your palms.
  • Vented high-low hem. The lower ribbing steps down slightly lower in back than in front. Open side splits let the long length fall cleanly over trousers or skirts without pulling tight or bunching around your lower body.
  • Washing and shape care. We recommend hand washing in cold water with a gentle detergent. If machine washing, run a delicate cold cycle, press out the water with a towel, and dry flat on a rack so the long knit does not stretch.

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
